Student Council

Category : Blog

Ella Hannon of our News Team has put together a run down of some of the work our student’s council has been up to.

Here at Holy Family Senior School, we are very lucky to have our own Student Council which is made up of one person from each 5th and 6th class group. Each member is voted in by their fellow classmates at our annual class elections in September. These dedicated eleven students meet every week and discuss issues in Holy Family from a students point of view.

Their role in the school community is vital as they are the voice of the school newsletter, which includes school news, world news and lots more. You can find these newsletters on our school website, holyfamilysenior.com.

The Student Council also helps tp organise school events such as the WOW factor and the Amber Flag Day to name just a few. Each member works extremely hard to make the school a safer and happier place for all students.

National Children’s Choir Preview

By Shauna Lalor – School News Team

Our school choir is simply amazing. Aside from getting out of class for a little while we really love performing. We have been hard at work rehearsing since September.

We have 5 amazing teachers/conductors who must have great patience because when we started, we were a wreck. After a lot of hard work and practice every Tuesday and Thursday we have really come on and are sounding fantastic. (We like to think so anyway!)

We are being joined in one of the performances by the lovely girls from Mountrath School. Between us we are hoping to really break a leg on the night.

The countdown is now on. We will be performing next week in front of what appears to be a sold out Nano Nagle Hall. We hope to see you there for a night of amazing music and song.

Aldi play rugby

Article written by Sarah Avram – School News Team

Currently Aldi wants all the schools in Ireland to collect stickers with Irish rugby players on them. The Holy Family Senior School has over 300 stickers already collected, which means we are on our second poster.

The students have to collect the stickers, at the end our school could be in with the chance to win €50,000 for our school’s sports facilities. Wow, that is a lot of money.

Our school can do lots of good things with all that money to help sports in the school. If you have already brought in stickers thank you so much, you have been a lot of help. Please continue bringing them in.

Thanks to Mr. Dunne for sorting out all the stickers and posters. If you have any stickers please leave them outside Mr. Dunne’s room in the box. We really appreciate every sticker we receive. We all really hope our hard work pays off.

Save a Life One Day

A few weeks ago Ms. Kinsella’s class had an idea to hold a bake sale in aid of educating our teachers on how to use our very own defibrillator.

We have over 60 staff in our school and thanks to the generosity of parents, pupils and teachers, lives could be saved thanks to the training the teachers have received.

A defibrillator is a machine that gives your heart and electric shock to re-establish a normal heart rhythm. It is used in cardiac arrest.

While we hope the training the staff received won’t need to be put into practice, it may save the life of somebody someday.
