“Latch” (Literacy At The Children’s Hearts) is the title of a European project which Holy Family
Senior School is participating in with partner schools in Europe. The other schools participating
in this project are:
- Theresa Nuzzo School, Marsa, Malta
- Salaskóli, Kópavogur, Iceland
- O.S. Borcev za Severno Mejo, Maribor, Slovenia
- St Colman’s BNS, Macroom, Ireland
In this project, which is running since September 2017 for a 2 years period, teachers from the
partner schools will visit each other in order to share best practice in the teaching and learning
of literacy. The knowledge acquired, through classroom observations and teacher
presentations, will enable the participating schools to introduce and develop effective
strategies in the area of literacy.
The mascot for the project is an owl called Latch. Latch, who began his journey in Iceland, will
travel to each of the partner schools where the story of his life will be continued. A competition
was also held between the children of the partner schools to design a project logo. This logo
also features Latch.
This project is co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ educational programme
and the administration of the funding is managed by the Irish National agency, Léargas.
